… You Know… One that looks like this?

CPK Promotion Thank You Card

The card is a new promotion from California Pizza Kitchen where, (like the card says), everyone’s a winner!

Do you want a chance to win 4 nights at Four Seasons Hotel in LA or a trip to Hawaii and even a $1000 shopping spree to Neiman Marcus? That on top of cash prizes or percentage off meals should give you a reason to dine in at California Pizza Kitchen to get than chance!

Of course, besides that fact, the affordable  food, wine and casual environment are points to consider as well. :-)

All you have to do is go to any CPK location between now and September 7th, to receive a card. The Catch—You CAN’T OPEN it! Yes That’s right…it’s like getting a Christmas gift in November and someone saying you can’t until December! Get a CPK server or manager to sign your card on the DAY YOU VISIT! They’re the only ones that can open it. Then watch them scratch off the your card and reveal what it is….

Not an instant winner? You can still go online and enter the code that goes with your card and still WIN BIG!

Visit a CPK fast to get in on it! I went and got 20% off all food and beverages that can be used for an entire party or myself.

We have one here in Santa Clara, CA!

Our Pool Party This Weekend was a hit!

Summerwood Residents– Thanks for coming out to the festivities. We’ve had some smaller occasions like this throughout the summer, but we’re glad we could make a BIG splash with this one!

HOT, HOT, HOT Pool Party– August 28th, 2010

Body Toning in a Splash

Posted on August 27, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Most of the times when we head to the pool, we either swim or wade our feet in the water while chatting it up in the summer sun. Why not mix in some leisure with some healthy exercising? Swimming is one of the top activities to burn the most calories per hour.

“Simply treading water vigorously can zap 11 calories a minute, same as a six-mile-per-hour run.” [1]

If you’re already going in to get wet, get a nice toned body out of it! It feels like play when you do it! Fitness Magazine lists some good in-pool exercises to get fit in a splash! Fit it in after a long hot day, or gather a group of friends for a weekend workout session.

  • K-Thread: Treading upright in the water, this exercise consists of you alternating your legs in scissor-like motions (imagine forming a K with your body). Bring one leg up to hip level and hold for 5 seconds, as you bring that leg down, start to switch off on the other leg. It’s a good balancer and burner!
  • Otter Roll- If you’re imagining it, then that’s what it is! This exercise involves emulating an actual Otter “roll”. Start with a beach ball, hugging it whilePool Exercises floating on your back, then, while holding the ball, start to roll so that your body is now facing the pool floor. Work your way around for a continuous 30 second roll
  • Pike Skull- Treading and forming a “V”  by lifting both legs together; head/back and toes upright above surface. This exercise should be done in shallow water. The key is hold your V for a couple seconds per rep, feet pointed and back straight!
  • Other Exercises

Our newly renovated resort-style, sparkling pool at Summerwood is a perfect place to try these out for size! The pool has a very good gradual depth to it, for those who want to work their way up on difficulty level! The pool is open till 10PM so you can tone up just about anytime of the day!

Have You Met Arti The Robot?

Posted on August 25, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The Intel Museum is right down the street from us here at Summerwood Apartments. It’s free and open daily for kids to just go down and meet the new exhibit/human robot,  “Arti”– otherwise short for Artificial Intelligence.

The other kids seem to like it, your kids will too!

Listen to the story of Intel’s “intelligence” and technology as well as have some digital fun. The Museum is located at 2200 Mission College Blvd in Santa Clara!

Ladies have been covering up the lady lumps for years with these and now guys can too!

Yes, Man Spanx are the new guy girdle for those beer-lovers.

What’s funny is that they’re all a rage for guys — otherwise, they wouldn’t have made them, right?

For a better sense of the word, let’s just call the “mirdles” (men+girdles) something more politically correct; let’s  give men’s shape wear a try.

I’m not quite sure when the time came when guys no longer embraced their rite of maturation (i.e. the token beer belly), but it’s evident now they too have to “Watch their figure”.

There’s not one, but a handful of actual tummy-tucking products out for men right now:

Spanx for Men– wet-suit fitting undershirts. The shirt is cotton-compressed and helos with man handles, beer bellies and “the girlie chest area”

Equmen– quite an expensive shirt but based on reviews, gets the job done. The shirt is a precision fit shirt and keeps a guys’ core in place. Try saying that you’re “using ti for your workouts”!

Mens Belly Buster– The “Athletic” Supporter Girdle is quite an ironic description for that’s used to cover guts. Look for these on Amazon.com

Inta-Slim Muscle Tanks– Women aren’t the only ones wanting a little body definition. This shirt flattens the stomach, eliminates love handles and defines your chest.

Shapewear is the new guy trend…

Men of Summerwood—What do you think of this up and coming trend? Do you defren it or ditch it?

Show of hands: Who’s excited about entering their first year of college this fall? Now of those hands: Who’s ready to be broke for the 4 years following this fall? *SILENCE* Yeah, we didn’t thinks so! :-)

Speaking from experience, I can honestly say that aside from the “refund checks” and bumming-off-parents allowance, I couldn’t even afford soap and ramen noodles. Let’s not forget the time I wanted to be “independent” and move off campus, working FULL time just to live in my luxury student apartment. The high hopes I had for myself…

Tip JarTruth is, you can’t be a full time student and a full-time worker at the same timeSo how could we possibly stay above water as a college student?

The Official “Broke College Student” shares these time proof solutions for college students to make money without slaving hours at some fast-food joint.

1. Open a high-yield account: Money Market Accounts or Short-Term CDs can help you earn money on top of saved money. It’s the easiest and laziest way to earn money. Let’s say you get money every month from mom and dad or you get a good lump sum from a refund check, you can put that money into a high-yield savings account and watch the money work for you monthly….. ING, Ally and certain banks offer the best consumer high-yield accounts

2. Sell something you don’t need: You live in an apartment now, that means you could have furniture back home that’s just collecting dust. How about the $200 textbooks that you’re going to try to sell back to the bookstore at the end of the year, but the bookstore won’t take it back? Online sites like Ebay, Craigslist, Amazon and even Facebook are good places to post things for sale at no advertising cost! It’s a place where other peers and students go looking 95% of the time.

3. Get a Part-Time On Campus Job: Most college departments close at 5, so you can still use your afternoon for classes or homework. On-campus jobs are also low-key and low-stress. Student workers get their own desk and computers at some of their jobs so you can still possibly do other things while at work.

Any Broke-Proof options our students at Summerwood want to share?
